Awakening hearts, building community. Based in Oxford, Michigan — a non-profit public charity (501(c)(3)) dedicated to compassion, service, and belonging.

Vision

We believe every heart can be awakened by love, hope and small acts of kindness. Awakening Church Oxford exists to spark genuine human connection across Oxford and its neighboring communities.

Mission & Goals

  • Spread kindness and support through community programs and direct assistance.
  • Provide essential aid to families in need, especially during harsh Michigan winters.
  • Empower young people to serve and lead with empathy.
  • Celebrate human values that unite beyond faith, culture, or circumstance.

Inspiration

In the winter of 2022, during an unusually cold stretch, volunteers distributed over 200 warm packages to people living without shelter. Among them was Lorraine — a woman who had lost her job and spent nights in a temporary shelter. She said: “I thought I had nothing left to give. But when a stranger handed me a warm coat that night, I realized kindness can awaken hope.” This moment was the seed for Awakening Church Oxford — a reminder that every act of care awakens hope in both giver and receiver.

Core Activities

  • Light of Hope (Annual, December) — Winter drive for warm clothing, blankets, food, and essential supplies. Over 300 care packages distributed each year.
  • Awaken Together (Monthly) — Community sharing sessions every first Sunday to exchange stories, find encouragement and build supportive relationships.
  • Walk of Kindness — Community fundraising walk. Funds support local shelters and direct aid programs in Oakland County.

Date: February 16, 2026

Awakening Church Oxford proudly presents the "Walk of Kindness" — a community walking event along the scenic Oxford Lakeshore. This event gathers neighbors, students, families and seniors to walk together in solidarity and raise funds for those experiencing homelessness in Oakland County.

Program Highlights

  • Start & Registration: 9:00 AM at Lakeside Park Pavilion
  • Community Walk: 10:00 AM — 12:00 PM
  • Family Activities & Warm Refreshments: 12:00 PM — 2:00 PM
  • Candlelight Vigil & Closing: 6:00 PM — 7:00 PM (lighting of candles to symbolize hope)

Last year we welcomed over 250 participants and raised more than $10,000. Proceeds directly fund the "Winter: No One Left Behind" campaign that supplies heat assistance, emergency shelter support and care packages.
